Textiles Education: A Framework For Teaching Textiles

Textiles Education: A Framework For Teaching Textiles

This research was commissioned and produced by Textiles Skills Centre with a grant from ALL SAINTS EDUCATIONAL TRUST.
The rationale and framework document were written and overseen by Dawn Foxall and Roy Ballam. Designed by WienerPixel.

In 2024 TSC published the  Unravelling the fabric of Textiles Education report (Textiles Skills Centre, 2024), which evidenced two key issues for textiles education:

1. there is a lack of understanding for the rationale of textiles in education and its value in the curriculum
2. there is no clear vision for the content of what textiles education should be delivered.

TSC won an award from All Saints Educational Trust to develop a framework as a direct response to this research and the recommendations.
To address these issues, and further support the future of textiles education, the Textiles Skills Centre has worked with a range of key stakeholders, including universities, researchers, industry and practicing teachers, to develop this framework document. It provides a rationale for textiles education and outlines the fundamental curriculum building blocks for a cohesive textiles education experience for young people.

Thank you to all those contributed.
